Season 3 Winter Meetings

Pro-rate Numbers for Mid-season Acquires

From Scott via Adrian on 2014-07-14

Also... it seems to me that whenever a pitcher is picked up during the season,
his available innings for the season should be pro-rated down to the percentage
of games left. Have you ever thought of that possibility? It wouldn''t seem fair
for me or anyone else to pick a pitcher up that has say 150 innings for the
season, and then be able to relieve him almost every game since he still has
all of his innings available.

Probably should do that for SB''s too in the next season.

Decision

Pro-rated SB limit - unanimous

Pro-rated pitcher innings - 2 Yes, 1 abstinention

Per-162 Game SB and IP Numbers

From Adrian 2015-02-08

Let''s discuss SB attempts and perhaps making it per 162 games, rather than total attempts divided by seasons played.

And pitcher innings allowed per season to be the same thing, or some Bill James formula I just was told.

Two suggestions from Scott.

Decision

Yes - unanimous

Homefield Advantage Can Only Be Used When Batting

From Adrian 2014-08-26

Clearly our homefield advantage is much higher than in real life MLB. While we don''t have to copy MLB, in this case I want to. In fact it was to simulate real life that the homefield advantage rule was born in the first place.

Another knock against it has been the depression of offensive statistics it has given us, especially in homeruns.

I think we can solve both "problems" by modifying it to only be allowed for use when the home team is batting. This will both lessen it''s usefulness and bring the winning percentages of home teams down, and it will stop the drag on offense - (it in fact will artificially increase offense so we can whine about the pitchers'' stats, LOL!).

Decision

Homefield Advantage only on offense - unanimous

1 or 2 Homefield Advantage uses - yet to be determined

Season IP Hard Limit

From Adrian 2015-06-22

I also want to discuss changing the per season innings limit and the penalty applied to it. Currently the rules allow 9 innings past the limit without penalty. I want to change that. Having a limit that carries no penalty is silly. The limit should then be 9 innings higher on each card. Or, my preference, is to begin applying the penalty immediately.

Decision

Yes, remove the 9 inning “extension” - unanimous

Double and Triple Statistics for Pitcher Cards

Adrian on 2015-06-25

Looking ahead to next year when we will have actual numbers for doubles and triples on the pitchers.
[..snip..]
Well, I''ve run into a bit of a snag. It seems that the information is only available starting in 1940. So not sure what to do.

The question here is how to handle creating pitcher cards with incomplete real statistics.

Decision

Change players after 1940 - unanimous
